Assessments and Bath

Sorry for the picture overload in the next couple blog posts. I need to document these precious first moments of Ben's life. :)

Here are pictures from his assessments in the nursery and his first bath in our hospital room.

Sorry it's upside down. You can still see what a screamer he was.

He did seem to calm down for the shampoo

All fresh and clean! Gotta love the mohawk!

New Baby BOY!

Labor and Delivery Story/Timeline

6:30am- Hospital calls to tell us to come in for our induction!

8:30am- Arrive and check in at hospital

9:20am- Pitocin drip started. As it started to take effect, I never felt the painful contractions; just pressure.

10:40am- Epidural :) Why wait for the pain to hit, right? I was pretty sore from moving the day before anyway, so it was nice to have some relief.

Ridin' the "Princess Cruise" while I dilate. :)

11:30am- Doctor broke my water and I was finally checked. After the pitocin had been dripping for over 2 hours, I was still only dilated to 2cm! I don't think this little guy would have ever come on his own. My doctor then left the hospital to go to a wedding in downtown SLC. He knew I wasn't progressing very quickly.

12:30pm- 3-4cm dialated

1:45pm- Still only a 3-4 cm. They placed a contraction intensity monitor on/in me. Once they knew my contractions were pretty intense, they backed the pitocin off a bit.

2:30pm- Finally getting somewhere. Dilated to a 5cm.

3:00pm- I started to feel these pressure waves about every 1-2 minutes. I felt like I really needed to PUSH something out of me. Hmmm. Maybe a BABY! The nurse checked me, and quickly paged my doctor because I went from a 5 to a 10 and he was ready to come out!

Unfortunately, just like McKenna, he was face up. They used forceps to turn the little dude :(

By 3:20pm we had our beautiful baby boy!! And man, was he a screamer!

Benjamin Daniel Webster

8lbs 2oz

23in long! Tall like his daddy!

Daddy got to cut the cord, put on the first diaper, and his little hat.

I was a little hesitant to have the skin-to-skin contact because his vernix coating was SO thick and cheesy! But I'm glad I did. It was a great moisturizer. :)

Our wonderful Dr. Irion (Dan's uncle)

I know it's a dark video, but this shows you his nice set of lungs.

Good-bye and Hello!

Tuesday, January 4th, after having our condo on the market since August 7th, we FINALY closed on selling...

Good-bye to our wonderful home of 3 years!

...and buying!!
Hello to our new home for many years to come!
The next few days were a whirlwind!! We got a new furnace and new carpet put into the house on the 3rd and 5th, and we moved in on the 6th. Baby induction on the 7th! (More on that later.)

Our original closing date was supposed to be December 21st! Closing was a nightmare in so many ways! If I had some advice for anyone, it would be to NOT try to close around the holidays. Too many people taking holiday hours and not getting the paperwork done that we needed! Thinking about it still makes me so frustrated... but boy, did we learn patience!!

We had such fabulous help moving from ward members, friends, and family! We couldn't have done it all without them. Some provided food, babysitting, and lots of manual labor! Our realtor (and her husband), who is also a ward member, dear friend, and a SAINT, went and finished cleaning our condo for us at LATE that night!! I tried so hard that day to work and work so I would go into labor on my own, but no such luck. :) We stayed up until 1 am trying to get the house livable for the next couple days we'd be at the hospital and my mom would be at the new house taking care of McKenna.

Labor and delivery story to follow...

New Year's Day!

New Year's Day most of the cousins brought their snow gear so they could go outside and play in Mantua. We were a little ill prepared, so we improvised...

The scarf, earmuffs, and gloves were in Dan's car. She's wearing cousin Whitney's extra pair of boots, and only her pj bottoms for pants. Yeah, I would look a little concerned too. :)

Not so sure about this...
Daddy took her on a QUICK ranger ride (down the street and back). Brrrrrr!
The uncle Jake took these cute girls for a walk. Both were actually quite sad to come inside, but weren't really happy outside either.
Dan's parents also have a really cool piano in Mantua. It can do cool voice modulations like harmonizing with yourself. Here's McKenna's rendition of Frosty the Snowman. She's naming the characters from the movie in case you couldn't tell.
Stay tuned for the next blog post about our new little man that was born a week ago... Give me a little break, k? I'm trying to get caught up. :)

New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve morning, the Webster extended family got together at a hotel conference center for a yummy breakfast, crafts for kids, and a fun white elephant gift exchange.

This is the reason I couldn't get McKenna to make a craft. The big boys were out in the lobby playing with their Christmas helicopters.

And LOTS of big open space to run around!
Dan's Webster Grandparents
We spent the rest of New Year's Eve at Dan's Parent's home in Mantua! Dan's mom got everyone some lovely party attire!

After dinner, we played games,
the kids played with the iPad in their jammies,

they bounced around,
and enjoyed the glow sticks and and noise makers Grandma brought!

The grown-ups then watched Inception, lit fireworks at midnight, and tried to encourage me to go into labor so I could have a New Year's baby... We all know that didn't happen. :)

Christmas Videos

I forgot to post these with the Christmas pictures.

This is McKenna's very basic understanding of Christmas. :)
Through out the month of December, we also tried to explain that Christmas is Jesus' Birthday. With all that birthday talk, she picked up on the fact that HER birthday is in October. Little smartie pants!

One of her favorite Christmas toys (from our 90 year old neighbor).
She's got a pretty good horsie sound too. :)

More "I seek" face.

These were just randomly taken during the month of December.
Oh the joys of the bookshelf! And how fun is it to play while standing in a pot. Right?

We recorded these videos just because she like to watch herself.

No Baby Yet

Contrary to the baby ticker on our blog, our baby is NOT three days old. He hasn't even been born yet... :)
