CA Vacation part 2- Farm Tour and Fam Pics

Sunday (Aug. 30th)
Our first whole day together.
12= Number of people needing to shower
2= Number of bathrooms in my parent's home
5= Number of minutes we were late for 9:00am church!
Impressive, huh? :)  The rest of the day was spent napping, visiting, and playing with the kids.

Monday (Aug. 31st)
My dad is the controller of the walnut farm owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  This particular farm also grows almonds and plums.  We spent the majority of the time learning about the plum harvest and drying process, thus turning them to prunes.

This is the machine that shakes the trees.  The plums fall onto a trampoline type screen so they won't bruise.
The shaking (kinda reminds me of the Singing Bush from "Three Amigos")

Then they come here where the sticks and leaves are sorted out.
Then they're put on these pallets and sent into a large dehydrator and they come out prunes.

Yum!
This farm processes walnuts and prunes on a very large commercial scale.  All of these crates are full of dried plums.
We also got a tour of the walnut processing plant.  This is one of the many silos that hold the  walnuts after harvest.

All my siblings and our cute protective gear to wear in the plant.

Monday night we went to Sears to get family pictures!  My mom made these fun shirts for us.  We are color coordinated in families and are wearing a number according to when we joined the family.  Dad #1, Mom #2, Mickelle#3... and so on. :)  {I was # 5, Dan #9, McKenna #11}

That is so very, very sad. Your parents have disowned you and your sister and have made you blue and her white. They clearly must love Johnathan on the other sister more. So sad.

No way Mindy. They love Laura and Emily more because they give mom and dad GRANDBABIES!

On a side note, those prunes really WERE good. Sweet, sticky, delicious laxatives in the right quantities... :)
