Dec. ‘23- Week 4, Part 2: California Adventure, Balboa Island, Drive Home, Visited Grandma Pat, New Years with Thompsons and Neighbors

27th- Wednesday- We left the hotel (and checked out) by 9. We got McDonald’s for breakfast and parked in Disney parking. We got into California Adventure by 10, which was a little later than we wanted, but we were all so tired from the day before. We headed to Little Mermaid first, then Incredicoaster!  Alice was too little for it, so Dan stayed out with her and got her a cookie and rode the Critter Carousel with her. Dan and Anna rode Incredicoaster again. We went to the Spiderman and Avengers little shows. We had lunch at Pym which was delicious! We went to Cars Land next. We were in line for Luigi’s ride when it broke down. So we headed over to Radiator Springs. The wait time said 90mins originally, which was the shortest we had seen it!  However, the ride broke down about 5 times total (2 while we were on it!), so it took us 2.5 hours total to get through it.  Ugh!  You win some, you lose some.  We did our best to keep entertained in line by playing card games and the dot game. We did Mater’s Junkyard ride, then got mickey ears ice cream and a giant pretzel at Pym. We did WebSlingers, then a Dr. Strange show, which was funny. We hung out at the animation studio for a bit. We got corn dogs for dinner. We rode Soarin’ and then watched the World of Color show. We had to lift the three girls the whole time so they could see. Phew!  We rode Guardians as our last ride of the day! We went to Downtown Disney to shop for souvenirs. *Sadly, Dan and McKenna had colds, while Ben, Anna, Bethany, and Alice are finishing colds. I was the only one who felt healthy during this whole trip and I felt a little guilty for that. *We did not get to repeat any rides again due to the crowds. Some of the yummy food we had over the two days: gingerbread cookie, churos, raspberry macaron with “grey stuff,” Mickey ears ice cream, Jack Jack num num cookie, breakfast burritos, blue and green milk, Pym pretzel, Pym test lab for lunch, meat skewers for lunch, pizza planet pizza. very expensive, but so fun to try all the things!

28th- Thursday: We got up around 9 and didn’t leave the hotel until 10:30. We got food from Subway, then we drove to Balboa Island. We rode the ferry across to the peninsula. We played at Balboa Beach for a bit and walked out on the pier. Bethany accidentally fell in. Almost everyone had to change their pants when we got back to the car because they got too wet while chasing waves.  There was tons of bad traffic when we left. It took us 2 hours to go ____ miles. We stopped in East Vale for gas and to get Jonathan’s Rubio’s he requested.  The next stop was for dinner at Del Taco in Baker. We had a rough dinner and spilled a bunch of things for some reason.  I napped, listened to Don’t Miss This, and went through pictures. The kids did great entertaining themselves.  We got some sad news about Kim Ulmer deciding to no longer treat her cancer a Mat posted she was declining quickly!  We arrived in St. George around 1am.

29th- Friday: We left the hotel at 9 and grabbed McDonald’s breakfast. We stopped by my Thompson Grandparents' graves in Scipio. We drove home and arrived around 2pm. Dan gave Ben a haircut. We unpacked, started laundry, and Desi came over. I used the fabric shaver on the girls new pink sweatshirts that were pilling quite a bit.  We had a leftover and quesadilla dinner. We got everyone to bed at a good time. *I’m so thankful for a safe trip!

30th- Saturday: We all slept in till 10ish. It was much needed!  We ate and started our errand running. I took Ben to the bank, the car wash, Smith’s for returns, and the pharmacy.  We had lunch and put groceries away. Ben worked on his talk for Sunday. Dan and I tried to take our own passport pictures but we couldn’t get the sizing right. We made mac and cheese for the kids. Dan and I went to Walgreens to get our passport pictures taken, then we went to dinner at Olive Garden. When we got home, Dan took McKenna and Adrie to the Regional Dance! They had fun and danced with a couple boys.

31st- Sunday: We all slept in. We didn’t start breakfast until 9:45ish. We all showered and made it to church on time. Ben gave a wonderful talk about Jesus feeding the 5000 and all the lessons that story teaches us: treat people the way you want to be treated, service, missionary work, and Christ’s grace is MORE than sufficient. For the 5th Sunday lesson, was watching an Area Authority broadcast from November about being unified in Christ.  McKenna drove home from church and is getting better! We all quickly changed and grabbed a snack. We headed to visit Grandma Pat! She looked great and was sharp and totally with it.  We made a quick stop at the Murray City cemetery to visit the Condie graves.  We grabbed a few things at our house and then drove to Layton. We had an appetizer dinner which was delicious! The kids and Dan built some Legos, played the Switch, and then we played Skyjo.  We did an early countdown for New Year’s Eve and left by 9:50. We put the three girls to bed and then hung out at the Moulton’s with some other neighbors.  They had fun confetti guns and we played games and ate some more.  Dan and I both felt like we need to take a break from food for a while!

Happy NEW YEAR!
